Royal Air Force Akrotiri, located in the south of the island of Cyprus, is the Royal Air Force base in Cyprus and an important British military base in the Mediterranean. The base is located in the southern part of the island, approximately 50 kilometers from Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, and approximately 60 kilometers from Larnaca, the largest city in Cyprus. The base covers an area of approximately 2,000 hectares and is the largest British military base in the Mediterranean region.
