China Education Association for International Exchange is China’s nationwide not-for-profit organization conducting international educational exchanges. The executive body of CEAIE is the Secretariat which is under the direct guidance of the Ministry of Education. At present there are 159 members institutions in CEAIE, including educational institutions at various levels.
At the early stage of China’s reform and opening-up, the State Council of the People’s Republic of China approved the joint report presented by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to establish China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) in July, 1981. The headquarters of CEAIE is located in Beijing.
The highest governing body of CEAIE is the Council. The 256 council members are recommended by CEAIE member institutions. CEAIE has local educational associations for international exchanges in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities as well as in 11 other cities. In 1991, CEAIE was approved by the Ministry of Civil Affairs as a national NGO. CEAIE is the major educational association (institution) in China; it also serves as the member institution or standing committee member of other national organizations including the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China NGO Network for International Exchanges, etc… CEAIE is approved by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs as having the authority to organize overseas training.
The Secretariat of CEAIE has worked with more than 1000 partners associations and institutions at home, and has established long-term working relationship with over 170 educational organizations in more than 50 countries and regions.
In 2006, CEAIE was granted Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. In 2008, CEAIE became the NGO Associated with the Department of Public Information of the United Nations.In 2009, CEAIE became the NGO in official relations with UNESCO.
CEAIE has a full commitment to meeting the needs of China’s modernization construction, developing exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese educational community and other parts of the world, promoting the advancement of education, culture, science and technology, and strengthening understanding and friendship among the peoples of all countries and regions of the world.
Basic Responsibility
Under the principles of equality, mutual benefit and friendship, CEAIE carries out extensive communications and cooperation activities together with foreign and domestic educational and scientific research institutions, academic groups, education, science and technology exchange organizations, schools and organizations, enterprises and funds that enthusiastically support education.
