Lexington Chinese School (LCS) is one of the largest and most prestigious Chinese Schools in New England. Its primary goal is to teach the Chinese language so as to preserve Chinese culture and tradition. Another objective of the school is to promote mutual understanding and integration between Chinese Americans and their local communities.
LCS was founded in 1972 in Lexington, Massachusetts. The school is currently located at Belmont High School in Belmont, MA. Starting with an enrollment of 36 students, LCS has kept growing over the past 30+ years. Today, Lexington Chinese School has an enrollment of about 400 students, from more than 200 families.
Lexington Chinese School is a member of the Association of Chinese Schools (ACS) and the New England Association of Chinese Schools (NEACS).
Despite the accomplishment of a fine system of teaching approaches, textbook compilation, and administrative functions, Lexington Chinese School aims to develop a greater variety of subject matters in the curriculum design, while continuing to improve current teaching materials and adopt new learning tools.
LCS will continue to maintain a harmonious relationship with other Chinese schools and social organizations, in order to strive to promote Chinese instruction in the United States.
Lexington Chinese School has over 60 teachers, administrators, and parent representatives; and a student body of almost 400 students from more than 200 families.
The LCS Language Program consists of more than 25 kindergarten, primary, secondary and high school level classes; and also bilingual classes.
The curriculum in the Chinese Language Program is designed mainly to help students to develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Chinese. The School makes every effort to foster students` interest and desire to learn the language, consequently, in addition to the adoption of conventional Chinese language textbooks as primary teaching materials, LCS has also designed and compiled its own textbooks and guides for use as teaching materials in kindergarten classes and supplementary readings in the higher level classes.
In addition to its Language Program, Lexington Chinese School also sponsors a variety of student extracurricular activity programs, which include: Chinese calligraphy, drawing/painting, folk art, dances, junior music, Chinese instruments, Chinese chess, martial arts, badminton, table tennis, etc. LCS also offers SAT II Chinese program.
Classes at Lexington Chinese School meet once a week, on Sunday afternoons, from September through June. All language classes meet for two hours, 2:00-4:00 pm, each week. Student extracurricular activities run for an hour, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm.
