    Location

The San Jose Chinese School, founded thirty years ago in 1974 by a dedicated team of twelve parents, is a non-profit organization serving the needs of our neighborhood communities. Cooperation between school and home is vital and critical to our success. The school has changed a lot over the years, but the time and commitment delivered by our parents remain a stabilization factor throughout. Our staff, consisting entirely of parent volunteers, is appointed on a yearly basis. They work closely and diligently with our class representatives, also consisting of all parent volunteers, to provide the best education for our future generations. Their dedication and their spirits have made ours one of the most successful Chinese schools in the Bay Area.

The San Jose Chinese School (SJCS) is a non-profit organization serving the needs of the south bay communities. The school aims to provide a firm foundation in the reading and writing of the Chinese language, as well as language comprehension. The school also places great emphasis on exposing our children to the rich Chinese culture via a creative curriculum developed by our experienced teaching staff.

The SJCS was founded in 1974 at the Southside Community Center with a single class of thirteen students. The school was established and operated by the parents of those students on a voluntary basis. As more students enrolled in subsequent years, the SJCS relocated to the Pioneer High School campus in 1979, to accommodate the increased need for classrooms. In 1983, the SJCS again relocated to the John Muir Middle School campus, with students enrolled in all levels from K to 12. In December of that year, the SJCS was recognized as a non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. In September 2002, San Jose Chinese School relocated to the current campus at Leland High School.

We have a lease agreement with the San Jose Unified School District that allows us to conduct classes at the Leland High School campus every Saturday morning. Classes are held from 8:30am to 10:20am for the lower division, and then again from 10:40am to 12:30pm for the upper division. Recreation offerings ranging from soccer to folk dancing to calligraphy are also available during the same time periods. In addition to serving grades pre-Kindergarten to twelve, we also have CSL (Chinese as Second Language) classes for children, fulfilling our mission to teaching Chinese language and culture to the general population. Current enrollment now exceeds 550 students and is expected to keep growing.
