Headquartered in Norwalk, California, TVB (USA) Inc is a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of the largest distributor of Chinese-language television programs in the world, Hong Kong based, TVB Group.
Established in 1984, TVB (USA) Inc started its Jade Channel cable service targeting the then new Chinese community of the Monterey Park area just outside of Los Angeles. In the few years that followed, the Jade Channel was carried by most cable systems throughout the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California. In 1991, the Jade channel cable service coverage was extended to include San Francisco in Northern California.
With ever-increasing viewers’ demands coming from outside of California, the 24-hour Jade Channel Satellite Service was introduced in 1994 serving Chinese viewers all over the US via analogue signals. The Jade Channel Satellite Service went digital and multi-channel in October, 2000, broadcasting seven Chinese channels via the AMC-4 satellite.
October 2006 marked the launch of TVBV, the first 24/7, Vietnamese dubbed, TVB drama channel on the satellite platform to serve the fast-growing Vietnamese population. Answering to the demands of a huge Mandarin-speaking population, two major Mandarin channels TVBS and TVB8 were launched on the satellite platform in August 2007. In March 2009, cable service was added in the New York area providing viewers an alternative to satellite service for a solution to difficulties installing satellite systems in the New York high-rise buildings. The same year TVB services were also launched on the television platforms of two major US telcos.
