Calvary Christian Church began its ministry in May 1994 after a merge of two well-established churches, Surrey Christian Centre and Calvary Community Church. Pastor Gordon McDonald and Pastor Harvey Schroeder joined together to provide spiritual leadership for their growing congregations. To respond to the rapid growth in the Fraser Heights community, the church expanded also. On October 12, 1997, the congregation held their first service in their new sanctuary. In 1998, the former sanctuary was dedicated "The Schroeder Hall."
As the diversity of the community continued to increase, a small group was started in September 2001 to minister to the needs of the Chinese families that began attending Calvary. As this group continued to grow and the burden for the Chinese community intensified, the Mandarin congregation of Calvary was born on May of 2003. What started as a small group bible study has now grown significantly to a thriving and active ministry to the Chinese community of the Lower Mainland that now meets together for Calvary's weekly Mandarin service, as well as ongoing activities and classes throughout the week.
